    Dearest Mother,
Hope you have recovered from that nasty flu you had. You will be happy to know that I have arrived safely in small village just outside Tenby, the village is called Little Weirwold.

Getting lined up in the village hall to get chosen was so nerve wracking, but we got chosen very quickly, we were chosen by Mr and Mrs Campbell and their 12 year old twins Carrie and William (but we call him Willie). They are really kind, and they made sure I felt safe and happy. After I’d been chosen they signed some forms and then when we were back in their house I got a tour of the whole house. In the kitchen there is a huge fireplace, a bright red stove, a really tall larder and a long wooden dining table, in most rooms they have large patterned rugs. I am very happy here but I do miss you and the rest of the family. At school there is a gang of nasty children who calls all of the evacuees ‘townies’ but Carrie tries to stop them, apart from that every thing is great. Me and Willie listen to the radio every evening before we go to bed to see what has happened that day.

Every morning Carrie plaits my hair and then we walk to school together. The school looked quite big at first, but now it seems rather small. The is 87 children and 3 teachers, one of which is our old teacher, Mr Williams. My teacher Miss Fletcher is very kind, she helps me with any thing I don’t under or find tricky. When I get back from school I help on the farm opposite from our house, the farmer and Willie help me with the sheep and chickens. I never knew milk came from a cow. Also there is one horse called Patch and she is brown with beautiful white patches all over her. Mrs Campbell taught me hoe to ride her last week. I've met a few friends, Helen, Peter, Anne & George, they all live near to our cottage so we often meet up in the fields behind our houses by the stream. However they are full of sheep in the fields and Anne is scared of them. Sometimes I like to count the sheep and cows from my bedroom window, I find it rather relaxing.

Food is still rationed up here in Tenby, for breakfast we usually have porridge or cereal, for dinner we have spuds (mashed, boiled or roasted) with ham, mince or spam. Tonight I helped to mash the potatoes and boil the carrots. Occasionally as a treat we go apple or blackberry picking and make a crumble or pie, I love it, it's so much fun. Mrs Campbell runs a groceries shop, Willie and I often help pick the veggies and then deliver them to the people in the village. We get paid pocket money every week if we help her and have been well behaved. All the food is so fresh here, eggs come from the chickens in the farm that Willie works on. Mr Campbell goes into the field behind us and milks the cows for the farmer, he gets paid and he can take as much milk as we need, don't worry he never takes advantage his deal.

I am missing you and all my old friends, I wish you could come and live up here in the countryside, it so calm and peaceful. Have you heard how Dad is doing in the Airforce? Don't go knocking everything over when the blackout comes. I hope this war end soon so we'll be together for Christmas.

    Love from your loving daughter
    Jennifer Xxx
